Laguna Woods offers some of the most affordable housing for age 55+ adults in South Orange County. The population was 16,192 at the 2010 census, down from 16,507 at the 2000 census with a median age of 78. About 90% of the city consists of Laguna Woods Village, a retirement community, formerly known as Leisure World. This gate guarded community offers one and two bedroom stock cooperative manors with carports as well as some larger two and three bedroom condos and single family homes with garages. Residents enjoy beautifully maintained grounds, golfing on two courses, seven clubhouses, ten tennis courts, five pools and an equestrian center. The picturesque meandering Aliso Creek shaded by mature trees runs through this community.
